COVID 19 UPDATES

Greetings Wyoming Student Leaders & Advisers!

2020 has challenged us all to ELEVATE OUR LEADERSHIP!  While there are still so many unknowns as we begin the 2020-2021 school year, there is one thing that remains constant and is needed more than ever - effective LEADERSHIP!  As the executive director, I have had many sleepless nights trying to determine how to best move this organization forward and to provide our member schools with resources and guidance.  Needless to say, I am still working to develop resources and guidance and I hope to distribute those to each member council in the coming weeks.  I can, however, provide you with the following updates:
  • Fall Summit Meetings -  These meetings will be cancelled for the 2020 school year.  In place of the Fall Summit meetings, the WASC Board will host monthly virtual meetings to discuss pertinent topics and to allow member schools the opportunity to brainstorm ideas and to share ideas.  We are also working to create a blog in which student leaders and advisers can post questions/ideas and members can respond to each post.
  • Honor Council Books - While the deadline for the 2019-2020 Honor Council Books was August 15, I was not aware of the fact that our website was not functional.  Obviously, this situation has been rectified.  Given that some councils did not have the opportunity to print off the honor council application, I have decided to extend the deadline to OCTOBER 15, 2020.
  • State Convention - The WASC Board has decided to postpone the fall convention at this time.  The reasons for this decision include:
    • The current orders from Governor Gordon still limit the number of people within one location.
    • Western Wyoming Community College is not able to serve as the convention site this fall.
    • Many school districts are not allowing athletics/activities to include an overnight stay.  Most districts do not want four students sharing one room.
  • Therefore, your WASC Board is working with the student councils of Green River High School, Farson-Eden High School, and Rock Springs High School along with the WHSAA and WWCC to select a date to try to host an in-person convention in either March or April of 2021.  We are also working to create a virtual conference in the event that we cannot meet in person at all this school year.  This decision will extend the term of office for our State Officers and Region Representatives.
Please know that these have been incredibly difficult decisions for the WASC Board to make.  However, given the current situation, we all feel that these are the best decisions for the organization and our membership.  Please check back, regularly, as updates will be posted here.

Thank you all for your continued support and leadership!
